Sometimes, Your Parents Are Right.

As you may know, I’ve been trying to grow some vege seedlings for really a long while, but it’s just not happening. They normally just grew and grew and then suddenly, died.

When I talked to my dad about this my dad said I should just plant the seeds in the garden bed that I’ve prepared way long ago and just let it grow. I told him that I’ve been reading a lot on the internet saying that planting seedlings and then transplant to the bed is a better idea. He said I’m not going to get a single piece of vege if I keep doing this. We’ll see – I said.

Some time last week I was really frustrated, realising the fact that this time around, even nothing is willing to come out of the seedling pot. I decided to place 4 seeds of ladies’ fingers and cabbages each to the garden bed, and water and ignore them. And this morning, I’ve got at least 5 of this.

Not only they are growing, they are WAY BIGGER than the seedlings that I used to have. At least 4 times bigger. I’m really not sure if this whole thing is right but damn it, they grow! Even the soil with the never-germinate-seeds from the seedling pot that I randomly threw in the garden bed had something came out of it. Way smaller than these but they are also growing.

And I start to realise. Perhaps the internet is not always right. Perhaps my dad is. At least until now.

I See Hope!

I woke up with a still-sleepy mind and brain early this morning and started my routine of letting Xiao Bi out in the garden and watering my vegetable pots. Oh btw, the ones I planted end of last year (a couple of weeks ago, to be exact), didn’t work out. It didn’t sprout after 2 weeks and my grandma’s maid accidentally ‘flooded’ it when she was watering other plants. lol. So me and her planted another two batch of seeds that evening itself. One pot with the carrots, another with lettuce.

Anyway, I thought I was still dreaming when I saw this…

Yeap! Three of these little guys sprouted!  I see hope! lol. Given the fact that I haven’t been able to successfully grown anything since the tau-geh (bean sprout) at school, this really made my day. :)

Now the only problem is, both of us (me and the maid) are not sure if we put carrot seeds or lettuce seeds in this pot. Guess it’s just going to be up for another round of surprise! :)

Something New.

For some unknown reasons, I’ve started to do something that I won’t normally do. To be exact, something that I thought I’ll never do in my whole life. I think this kinda thing does happen from time to time on me. Like I never wanted myself to teach or to be a teacher, but at one point of my life, I was actually enjoying teaching the kids very much. The universe does have its own way of bringing unexpected things into one’s life. :)

This time around, I started planting something in the garden. In short, gardening. Yeap. I’ve killed some cactuses and here I am, planting again. :)

At first I got a pack of carrot seeds when Charles was back about a week ago and started my plan to build a no dig garden. Try googling around and you’ll get the idea. It sounds quite simple and I’d like myself to plant some vegetables in Xiao Bi’s garden territory – and of course I’m going to make her NOT chewing up or digging out my vege. I followed the approach from the Dog Whisperer with her and it seems to be working just fine, and she seems to be totally OK with the yet-to-grow carrot tray. :)

And then I’ve got a huge type of water plant kinda thing from the owner of Xiao Bi’s bf. This one is simpler. Just put the whole thing in a huge pot, add soil and fertiliser and just water it everyday. I like the idea. :)

Here is my carrot tray. It should start seedling (I hope I’m using the correct word, I’m not used to gardening, seriously) in 10-20 days. I hope it does, and I’ll be able to move them to the no dig garden.

So all in all, I’ve started something new for 2009. How about you? :)

Happy New Year! :)
