10:30 am. Darl still sleeping. Yeah he never wake up early. If I don’t wake him up he will sleep his way to heaven until at least noon. Guaranteed.
Me: Hey you know what? I think we should make pan-fry lamb chop for lunch today. We haven’t done that for really long!
Darl: Mhhmmm…… (sleeping language, meaning, OK.) But it’s going to take some time to prepare.
Me: If you wake up now we can go grab the lamb at the supermarket and make everything on time, you see.
Darl: Mhhmmm……
10:50 am. Still hopelessly rolling on the bed.
Me: Hey! Our anniversary is just around the corner!
Darl: OK, I’ll pan fry some lamb chops for you on the day.
!@#$%^&*(). This is the risk that you’re going to face when your relationship is no longer in the honeymoon-state.
With my previous successful pan-frying experience, I was so confident to do it again this evening when darl said that we should just cook our dinner tonight. I defrosted the lamb shoulder that we bought a few days back, and started looking for suitable vege to go with it. And I found tomatoes and carrot.
To be honest, I was kinda lazy to cook the vege. As I wonder how I could make my life easier, I decided to pan-fry them too. :D
I soaked, and washed, and cut them into pieces (for tomatoes) and slices (for carrot) while pan-frying the lamb. Once done, I threw the vege in the pan – OK la I actually turned off the gas and threw in, and then turned it on again. Scared la me! >.<
A few moments later, I’ve got this served.

It was good! :D Smelled good, tasted good too! Like you BBQ-ed them but with the fragrance of lamb.
But the lamb, on the other hand, wasn’t that good today. The slices we bought were just too thick and somewhere in the middle part just wouldn’t get cooked enough. :/ And to save our time, darl bought back the instant mashed potato… Lazy people. :D
P/S: On the side note, the little red *Updated!* feature on my blogroll hasn’t been working for a few days. Not sure why but it’s making my life miserable. Now I realise how much I have been depending on it to check on latest updated blogs. >.<
So this is the day. Darl’s birthday! Happy birthday! :D
And as planned, today I was supposed to prepare pan-fried lamb chop, mashed potato and vege. I had to take away grilled salmon because the pack of lamb shoulder that we bought was quite big in portion – in fact we didn’t have much choices. Those available at the supermarket were big in portion. :/
I started preparing the vege at around 6 pm. Boiled the potato and started mashing them following mh’s instruction. :D Did the same thing to the broccoli too.
At about 7 pm, darl wasn’t back yet. I decided to start pan-frying the lamb. FYI, this was the first time in my life that I was pan-frying something. Seriously, I didn’t know how it will turn out and what it will turn into! >.<
I pan-fried two pieces of lamb and that’s when darl arrived. He stood beside talking to me while I continued pan-frying – oh btw, there were a total of five pieces of lamb shoulder in the pack. I thought I might as well cook them all and give them to my sis-in-law if we can’t finish them. :)
While pan-frying the 4th piece, darl took over and I went completing and preparing the vege and dishes.
And at the end of the day, these were what we had.

A closer look.

They were really yummy! And oh, I did the pan-frying according to mh’s instructions too! It wasn’t that difficult afterall. Yeah I am super proud of myself now. lol.
All in all, thanks Sasi for the brownies’ recipe and thanks mh for the main meals! :)
Sometime last week me and darl went to the Popular Bookstore sale at Midlands Park, and bought us a total of RM200+ of books. Among the first that I’ve got my hands on is a cook book on ‘Easy Steamed’ dishes. Well, I only focused on the word ‘EASY’ as a guidance for me to get a good cook book. lol.
I flipped through and made notes on a few of the recipes that I was interested in. During darl’s off day two days back, I asked him if he want to try out the recipe and we settled with this ‘Ang-Chau’ Lamb. For those of you who don’t know what is ‘Ang-Chau’ (红糟、紅麴), it’s a type of special dish for Hok-Chiew people. My grandma used to be very good in making her own ‘Ang-Chau’ for soup and dishes like stir-fried chicken. The dishes are all in red. Once my friends dare not drink the soup because he said it looked like blood. :D It’s actually very yummy, with the smell of liquor/alchohol.

Since this was a last minute thingy, we rushed ourselves to Cold Storage and grabbed some of the ingredients needed, and started preparing for it.

Some of the main ingredients for the sauce are ‘Ang-Chau’, sesame oil, Rice baijiu (米酒), ginger, and chicken stock.

And of course, lamb. :D

As usual, I was actually just watching beside while darl working on most of the stuffs. :D He prepared the sauce while cooking the lamb in hot water – more like just dip inside to get away from the smell.

Once ready, pour the sauce over the lamb and put in the steamer to steam for about 30 minutes.
And here is what you’ll get after 30 minutes.

And YES, it was yummy! :D
