An old friend of mine purposely IM-ed me this afternoon to tell me that she was laughing when she was reading the post about me falling down in the middle of the road. I didn’t ask which part or what she was actually laughing at, though she did mention that she thought it was funny. Yeah right. It was already so painful that I thought it’s better for me to make fun of myself.
Anyway.
We chatted a while and I was telling her about how difficult it was to take a bath after I got all the wounds and dressings all over myself. When I took the first bath after I fell down, I actually wondered how I landed. You see, of all the major wounds, I got the biggest one on my left knee, a smaller one on my right elbow, and another one on the left side of my chin. Yes, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, with a few minor scratches on my right knee. How on earth did I land?
As you can probably imagine that I have no proper knowledge on first-aid or bandaging at all, I made use of what I had in hand – washed the wounds, applied antiseptic cream, covered them with facial cotton (OK this doesn’t sound right) and secured them with some surgical tape. So when I was bathing, though I will be changing the dressings after that, I still wanted to make sure no water will touch any of the wounds – come on, this is painful!
And with my awkward wound-positions, can you imagine washing your hair with your left leg lifted up, right hand holding high, and head leaning towards the back so water from the shower wouldn’t reach your chin?
Awesome.
When I talked to my mom who also had a minor injury recently, she recommended me to use a rather-expensive-but-totally-worth-it dressing. I’m sorry if I sound outdated, but as mentioned, the last time I fell down was god-knows-when.
A waterproof dressing. That is bacteria proof with sterile film. That is flexible with ultra-thin breathable film. And most importantly, that has non-stick pad to help reducing pain during removal. It’s really not fun trying to separate the facial cotton from my flesh and blood twice a day.
So my dear old friend who had laughed so hard, make sure to invest in at least a box of this, because you’ll never know when it’s your turn. And when it is, I’ll make sure to call you up. And laugh. BWAHAHAHAHA!!! – Ooops, too early.
Our life with Xiao Bi wasn’t an easy one. She was so well-known for her rebelliousness since she was a puppy. She barked non-stop, she chewed on and broke doors, she ran out of the house to the neighbourhood as if she could fly. Oh and she even dragged me to a cactus bush once when we were out for a walk!
She is now 2 years +. It’s definitely amazing to look back and see what we’ve gone through together. The struggle, the pain, and the laughter. I still remember at one point I almost gave up on her – and I’m now glad that I didn’t.
I had a wonderful experience with her yesterday morning. I woke up feeling tired and sleepy, and thought I’d check both the dogs out from the window before I make them breakfast. I saw Xiao Bi lying near the window, so I ‘pssst’ her. She raised her head and looked at me. I asked her, where is Coco? Normally at this point, Coco would appear from nowhere. But she didn’t. So I asked Xiao Bi again, where is Coco?
She looked aside, stood up, and walked away. And then she brought Coco. Yes, she brought Coco. She was escorting Coco from another side of the yard to the window. I almost cried at that moment – She understood what I was saying! The feeling is amazing. What could be better when my forever-rebellious Golden Retriever turned into a friend who could listen and understand?
Xiao Bi received an invitation last week. An invitation from her boy-friend, Bobby’s owner. He invited her to spend some time with Bobby in his garden, so they could wrestle and play off leash!
This is so so so so so cool! I’ve always been dreaming about Xiao Bi being able to play with Bobby (or other dogs) off leash. Since she likes Bobby, they could just be the next perfect couple. :)
We dropped by yesterday evening but I forgot to bring along the camera. The dogs were certainly happy with the arrangement that they kept running in and out of the house. Bobby was leading and Xiao Bi was following most of the time.
Since today is a public holiday, I brought Xiao Bi out again in the evening and went to Bobby’s place. This time around, I snapped a few photos with my camera phone. :)
The one standing is Xiao Bi and the other is Bobby. See how loving they can be. :)
They couldn’t stop pretending to drink and play with the water. :)
And here is a little video clip of them. Not very clear since it was recorded with my camera phone.
We are planning for a trip to the beach some time at the end of the week. We’ve also invited Bobby. It would certainly be great if they could go together. :)
As of today, I’m really proud to say that I’ve been able to bring Xiao Bi out for her normally evening, sometimes morning walk for a continuous 2-3 weeks!
I believe I wouldn’t be able to do it for so long, if it wasn’t because of Xiao Bi’s friend, Bobby, and his friendly master. Xiao Bi has never been so happy before and I really can see that she is looking forward everyday for her walking time to have a little play time with Bobby. And really, Bobby’s master has been very supportive and always allow them to play for a really long time. Sometimes they just wrestled on the road for a good 45 minutes to an hour! And that’s the time we had chit chats on their diet, exercise, behaviour, etc.. It’s so fun to have someone accompanying the normally boring walk and have knowledge and info exchange at the same time! :)
Looking at the very steady Bobby always makes me more confident in trainng the forever rebellious Xiao Bi. I’m making her some homemade treats these few days, and I hope that will assist me in my journey to ‘conquer’ her! >.<
We woke up early this morning to bring Xiao Bi out for a walk. It was really a sunny and lovely morning, so I decided to bring along my camera for some random shooting.
Let me pee first…
Everything looked bright, lovely, and warm. Maybe it’s because it has been raining on and off for the past few weeks. This morning appeared to be so beautiful!
And I can’t help but to fall in love with the blue sky. Nothing beats a sunny day with bright blue sky!
Doesn’t this look like broccoli? lol.
It’s not easy to take photos of Xiao Bi. She never stays still. And I think she doesn’t like camera. This is one of the rare ones.
Check out the concentration…
And of course, she paid her friend a visit before and after her walk. :)
