Today I’m going to share about some really good domestic experiences.
Almost eight out of ten times when we had to eat out or order take away for dinner, we (or I?) opt to get our food at this hawker centre in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, just right beside Penang Chinese Swimming Club. And almost 9.9 out of ten times when we were there, I had my favourite Tomyam noodles.
This week, for two continuous night, I had the exact same dishes. I’m starting to remember the girl who lived in Singapore for a few months and had Singapore fruit rojak for FOUR continuous days – yes that’s me, and I did fall sick after that.
The first dish is, of course, my favourite Tomyam noodles. Sour, spicy with lots of big prawns and chicken (I ordered without fish).

This is the stall selling the heavenly dish. That’s the stall owner on the right. I heard that her wife, the chef, is from Thailand.

And lately I’ve been quite into fried oyster, a typical hawker dish in Penang. The stall selling fried oyster in this hawker centre wasn’t really impressive, but about 1-2 months ago, I *think* they’ve either changed the owner or done something with the existing chef, and I’m loving this mouth-watering dish from them!

This is the stall selling my favourite fried oyster.

So if anyone of you happen to visit Penang (or if you are in Penang but have never been to this hawker centre), this is how it looks like. It’s just right along the main road of Tanjung Tokong so you are not likely to miss it. The name? Restoran Tanjung Tiga Dua Lapan a.k.a Restaurant Tanjung Three-Two-Eight. Teehee.

With all the season-celebrating mood around, my family wasn’t really excited about the whole thing, mainly because we don’t celebrate Christmas. :) But we did have an extraordinary Christmas Eve this year.
Darl called me up and asked me to choose in between having a beef steak or lamb chop for supper at around 7pm+. After all the discussions, I thought, oh well since I’m going to have a heavy supper, probably I should just consume a little bit for dinner. So at about 8pm, me and my younger brother decided to have our so-called Christmas Eve dinner. Just when we were about to start…
‘Puff!’
The next thing we knew, we were in the dark. NO ELECTRICITY! @.@
My parents went to get some torch lights out and distribute to everyone. Well, we thought it’s just going to be for a while, until we went outside and realised that the area affected was quite wide. Dad had to cancel his regular badminton session and started calling up his friends to check out if their places were affected. My aunty a.k.a Mimi called up Tenaga Nasional and was told that she was number 43. Lol.
So we chatted in the dark for a while, talking nonsense. And seriously, I was really getting hungry. About an hour later, there was still no electricity. So I decided to just have a torch-light-dinner. :D

Luckily the electricity supply resumed at about 9:30pm, and I could have my heavy Christmas Eve supper just on time – although the pre-marinated lamb bought at Jaya Jusco didn’t turn out well.
To those who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas! And to those who is not celebrating, Happy Holidays! :)
P/S: Btw, the sudden power failure did cause some problem to my iMac. Somehow it’s taking way longer then before to load the OS. Probably it’s the permission problem but hopefully it’s not too much a Christmas surprise… :/
Ever since I’ve successfuly baked a brownies with the recipe from Jamie Oliver’s website, I’ve been looking for more recipes that might suit me there. My main concern was certainly the difficulty level. lol. When I came across this roasted chicken breast with cherry tomatoes and asparagus, I said to myself, OK I’ll try this.
I wanted to cook this for darl so he could bring to work but his working hours this week just couldn’t fit into my schedule. And tonight since I was alone at home, I’ve decided to make myself this dish, with a bowl of rice to go with.
Preparing the dish.

I skipped the white wine and instead I added a little bit of rice wine, simply because I didn’t have any white wine in hand. But the rice wine certainly didn’t make any difference to the taste. :D
About 25 minutes later.

I would say it’s tasty and yummy. The only thing is that I’m not used to the taste and smell of rosemary. It’s just not a commonly used herb in Chinese cooking. Oh and I skipped the balsamic vinegar too. I’m really from a traditional Chinese family. :D
But for a dish that is simple, easy, and healthy, I think this is one of the good ones.
P/S: I wonder why Jamie’s rosemary can still look so green after the roasting. Mine turned into dark brown. Hmm… :/
With my previous successful pan-frying experience, I was so confident to do it again this evening when darl said that we should just cook our dinner tonight. I defrosted the lamb shoulder that we bought a few days back, and started looking for suitable vege to go with it. And I found tomatoes and carrot.
To be honest, I was kinda lazy to cook the vege. As I wonder how I could make my life easier, I decided to pan-fry them too. :D
I soaked, and washed, and cut them into pieces (for tomatoes) and slices (for carrot) while pan-frying the lamb. Once done, I threw the vege in the pan – OK la I actually turned off the gas and threw in, and then turned it on again. Scared la me! >.<
A few moments later, I’ve got this served.

It was good! :D Smelled good, tasted good too! Like you BBQ-ed them but with the fragrance of lamb.
But the lamb, on the other hand, wasn’t that good today. The slices we bought were just too thick and somewhere in the middle part just wouldn’t get cooked enough. :/ And to save our time, darl bought back the instant mashed potato… Lazy people. :D
P/S: On the side note, the little red *Updated!* feature on my blogroll hasn’t been working for a few days. Not sure why but it’s making my life miserable. Now I realise how much I have been depending on it to check on latest updated blogs. >.<
Yesterday evening I followed DARL to Queensbay Mall, thinking of having some time alone walking around – not shopping, I just wanted to walk around and have a short break. I haven’t been out of the house for so long that I think I’m gonna grow a few baskets of mushrooms if I don’t go out for a few hours. :/
Anyway, when it came to dinner time, again we had a hard time trying to figure out what to eat. At the end DARL suggested a restaurant out of the mall itself. Walking distance, just right opposite the mall.
OK at this point, I hope I am not again very outdated (I have the feeling that I am again!) with this restaurant. Pardon me but I really haven’t been out for ages. :(
Back to the topic. The restaurant’s name is Max Gourmet, which according to DARL, serves food like what we had in Kim Gary.

Aiks the photos are all kinda yellow-ish coz I was using my phone camera and the place was filled with yellow lightings. Anyway…
I ordered a Portuguese Style Chicken Chop Baked Rice with Cheese (aiks I hope I remember the name correctly!) and DARL got himself a Crispy Pork with Fried Noodle (something like that…). DALR’s food came about 5 minutes later, which is extremely fast for me!

I forgot to take a photo of it. :P At this point, I was already very happy sharing the fried noodle with DARL. It was SO YUMMY! Both the pork and noodle were crispy!

Oh and we shared a glass of Iced White Coffee. Yeah the taste was good and the portion was generous. Priced at only RM2.50 (if I am not mistaken), and according to DARL, it tasted better than what we had in the Old Town Cafe. :P
For some reasons, it took quite long for my order to arrive. We almost finished the plate of fried noodle and I was still waiting…

So I snapped a photo of the partially-opened kitchen. Almost full house at the restaurant when we went. Until finally my order arrived…

Tha-da! :D The taste was OK. Well it was quite nice actually, just that I don’t fancy the curry powder flavouring they had. At one point I was wondering, Portuguese style = curry powder…?
Anyway. The bill came to about RM17 for the dinner, which I think it’s very cheap. Although yes I would feel that they were trying to imitate Kim Gary in many ways, but if both the restaurants were to placed side by side, I’d go for this. :D
