Coco turns 2 today. And to celebrate, we did the only thing that she hates the most – BATHING. LOL.
No joke, she hates water so much that even if there is just a bit of water on the floor, she will take the long route to reach her destination. No chance stepping on water at all if she had a choice. If I clean the floor when she’s eating, she’ll change direction so the water won’t reach her. She is just the exact opposite of Xiao Bi when it comes to water.
Anyway, looking back at her one-year-old post, we have definitely walked a long way. Well at least she no longer crawls into the neighbour’s yard (although that’s because we have ‘crawled-proof’ the fence). Though she still occasionally plays with everything handy or not handy (unless she hears COCOOOOOO!!!), eats everything including my solar lamp, and sometimes, her own poo.
But we’re sure that Xiao Bi is loving her more and more, ever since she took responsibility of Xiao Bi’s oral and ear hygiene. So are we – although our oral and ear hygiene are both none of your business – you hear us, Coco? :)
Happy Birthday, little pal! :)

About a month ago when I decided to give Scooby, the stray dog who has been hanging around at my grandma’s place for years a good bath, groomer Jasmin came into rescue. After his first bath and injection, the task came to us – which means me and Wah, to continue bathing him to help his skin condition. At that time he was loosing fur all over his body. Jasmin told me that it was mange.
Slightly over a month later, as you can see, he has got new fur growing on his back!
He has also grown into very manja, whining for attention every time he sees anyone of us. I’ve also included some higher quality dog food into his diet, hopefully will help him to recover faster. Speaking of which, this fella eats a lot. Like, A LOT.
Slightly over two weeks ago my grandma’s housekeeper told my mum about a regular stray dog (we named him Scooby) who was either hit by a car or bullied by some other dogs and was quite ill. I’ve tried to ask for help around thinking I’d take him to the vet but he somehow recovered by himself. But I’ve decided to get him a good bath. He is an old dog, and has been hanging around at my grandma’s place for many years.
Thanks to a friend at Penang Animal Sanctuary Society, I was introduced to a lady, Jasmine, who happened to be a groomer, who happened to be very kind and help strays. I will go ahead and admit that I do not know how to handle strays and really, I haven’t been able to convince myself to handle the ‘dirty’ job, so she really came into rescue. So after some arrangements on the phone, we’ve finally settled to pay Scooby a visit today.
Being a crazy dog who is still chasing after bikes and barking at strangers despite his old age, Scooby definitely liked Jasmine. He wagged his tail when she called him, and walked towards her with no problem at all – and I was actually worrying that he might just start barking at her or something, which totally didn’t happen. She talked to him, looked at his condition, and started bathing him. Uhuh! With his history of being a water-hating dog, you can actually see the joy on his face! And Jasmine was handling him so professionally that I think it was like a massage for him.

The whole session took about 30-40 minutes. Jasmine also gave Scooby some de-worm pills. And then left my part, which is to BATH HIM EVERYDAY or AT LEAST ONCE EVERY ALTERNATE DAY for one week, and then ONCE EVERY ALTERNATE DAY for another week, and then ONCE EVERY WEEK.
Seriously, I’m not too sure if I can do it. But I’m convincing myself to do it. Once every alternate day might be better for me since I don’t think I’ll have the time to travel over on a daily basis. But seeing how Jasmine did it was inspiring – she made it look really easy. We’ll see…
Both the dogs are having ticks and fleas problem lately – something that I really hate. I’ve just had this with them about a month or two ago, and I thought I’ve killed all the little buggers. This problem is so much difficult to handle when they are outdoor dogs.
I don’t quite like using chemicals on them. I know I’m mostly the as-natural-as-possible type a.k.a vet’s enemy (I haven’t found a vet who totally like my idea, yet), and I just couldn’t get myself to use those heavily-poisoned drugs on them. Notice that whenever you are handling those things, they’ll ask you to wear gloves?
Natural remedies don’t always have instant results. It’s just like when you are taking herbal medications. They don’t always give you the instant-OK. But one thing for sure, they are always healthier.
So this round for the battle with the ticks and fleas, I’m using diluted Eucalyptus Oil. It has a strong but refreshing smell that bugs like ticks and fleas, or even mosquitoes don’t fancy.

I added a few drops in the water and spray some over the dogs after bathing. Making the dogs clean is not enough – their living area has to be clean too. So I mixed up extra and pour it over their living area at the yard. And then of course, I still continue to manually pick out the buggers on them every evening – and I love to see that it’s getting lesser and lesser. It’s a little slower – this is a repellent, not a killer – but it’s a lot healthier.

Ooo I love that!

You mean you can see me?
Close up.

Play time!
