The last time I painted was at least 7 years ago. Or 8 years. I can’t even remember – oh in case you didn’t know, I am a Fine Arts graduate, majored in oil painting. Well, that was years ago. Though I still occasionally doodled or sketched over the years but really, I can’t believe I haven’t been painting with my brush for that long.
Two weeks ago I started having that crave to paint again. It was so strong that I had to dig out all the tools I had to see what I can do. But of course, after so long, the paints were all dried – well not all, but the colours that I needed were dried. So I drove to the town one afternoon and bought almost everything that I needed to have myself painting again.
If you are expecting to see some beautiful still life or painting in the style of Realism, you’ll be disappointed. Well not that I can’t do that – in fact I was pretty good in that *ahem*, but it was even longer ago when I drew in that style. Last I knew, my style was more into surreal-conceptual-minimalism, or whatever you call it – sorry I’m not really good in classification. To justify what I just said, here are some images that I found in my portfolio – it was of course, covered in dust.

From left to right: ‘Untitled’, acrylic and pencil on plywood (122 x 61 cm); ‘Cell VIII: Distance’, acrylic, perspex, colour pencil, and zinc sheet on plywood (180 x 60 cm); ‘Cell V’, acrylic, colour pencil, texture paste, and zinc sheet on plywood (210 x 60 cm).
Today, I have these draft pieces.

Still work in progress. Yeah I’m actually using some banner scraps in these draft pieces. You know there is something about this material that I’m so attracted to and I can’t explain why. Now perhaps with me starting to paint, I’ll find out more about this, and myself.
