Misc.

Back with Some New Toys.

So we were on a trip to K.L for two days. Partially business trip. Will reveal more when things are more or less confirmed. :)

This trip was rather fun because we have a new companion. A Garmin. We had SO MUCH fun talking and learning the British accent. And mum was complaining why WE DIDN’T GET THE FEMALE GARMIN like the one she was using when she was in South Africa, because she sounded really sweet. LOL!

See IKEA at the back? We were almost everywhere with this new baby!

The main purpose we went to IKEA was to get some dish drainer for mum. We didn’t find what she wanted but ended up found our dream racks for the banners. Well, kind of. Wah was so excited that he didn’t rest at all after hitting home and went straight away fixing the racks. See the toes at the bottom of the photo? That’s him falling apart after fixing the racks and arranging the banners back. :)

A Hike Up!

Caution: This post is going to be quite long with lots of photos! :D

Darl had a rare 2-day off from work this week on Thursday and Friday. We initially had the arrangement of hiking into Pantai Kerachut on Thursday morning but it was raining. :( So we brought Xiao Bi to the beach in the evening instead. It was fun too and Xiao Bi was really swimming this time! But I miss hiking. :(

On Friday morning, we woke up early to find out that the sun was shining. :) Left at around 8 am and arrived at the entrance of Penang National Park about 20 minutes later. This place is so different compared to my last visit about 5-6 years back!

We registered ourselves at the counter and started our journey.

The hanging bridge is still there but it’s so much nicer now!

Rubbish in the river… Well luckily when you hike in, the place is clean.

My East Coast Dream (III).

We headed towards our next destination after leaving the haven – well it’s actually more like heading our next ‘mission’. This mission was given by my mum before we left. She repeated and repeated and repeated a few times, to make sure/remind me to buy our family some Ayam Percik or (preferably ‘and’) satay. Since we will be leaving early in the morning at 10 am the next day, we had to buy it the night before, which is tonight, and keep it in the freezer.

This shop, according to darl, is one of the best in town. If you are ever there, look for Yati Ayam Percik. :)

They don’t sell only Ayam Percik. Look at the wide variety of food they have there!

And check out the HUGE wok! :D

So since we were there, I decided to get my crazy blogging friends some yummy chicks too. I contacted MMK and the Tree the day before and settled 8 pieces of hot chicks for them. Too bad Zoe-T couldn’t have it at last due to some mis-communication. Next time zoe. :)

… and I got myself this. Kerang Percik! But hor… not really yummy lo. The taste of Percik just didn’t go well with the clam. :/

The day ended with us sleeping like pigs. Too tired ma. :)

The next morning, we woke up early and left for darl’s sister’s place at Rantau Panjang. It’s at the Thai-Kelantan border and it’s a free trade zone. I didn’t snap any photos there this time as I’ve snapped plenty and was kinda lazy…

We left the place at around 12:30 pm, without having lunch since we were still quite full. When we were on East-West Highway, we stopped by and found this shop.

If you are ever on the East-West Highway, I’d recommend this shop. It’s a somewhat Thai restaurant. We ordered my usual fish crackers (a huge plate!), Daging Merah (normal portion), Kangkong with squid, Iced Lemon Tea, and Iced Tea, and the bill was only RM11.50! Food tasted slightly above average.

We arrived in Penang at around 5:30 pm. There goes my East Coast Dream. :)

My East Coast Dream (II).

My second day at Kota Bharu started at 7 am. Almost everytime I was here we had to do this once. The highlight is to go down to one of Kelantan’s few Chinese wet market in town! The reason why I must go is very simple. I’ll show you in a while. ;)

The Chinese wet market looks just like what we have here in Penang, with stalls selling vege, pork, chicken, seafood and flowers, to name a few. They also have stalls selling food like Chee Cheong Fun, kuih, Char Kuey Teow, and so on. The photo on the bottom left shows the stall with the best Chee Cheong Fun – for darl’s standard of course. :)

And here is the reason I must go at 7 am. Introducing one of my favourite food in Kelantan, Khao-Jam (the photo on top)!

I have actually blogged about it when I was still on my old iWeb platform but let me just repeat here. The rice is cooked in the juice of various types of leaves and herbs, and it’s served with veges, fish crackers, and Budu, a type of fish sauce. Not all stalls are selling nice ones, but this one in the wet market in particular, has something that is just right for my taste buds. Slightly sour, very appetizing! The photo at the bottom is darl’s favourite Chee Cheong Fun.

Later in the afternoon, darl was supposed to bring me to the resort at the beach as promised. But instead of going there, he suggested to bring me to another beach, which according to him, is some places like a haven. Since I haven’t been there before, as long as it has beaches, I’m fine with anything. :)

It took us a while to reach as darl wasn’t very sure of the direction himself. We finally arrived at that place at 2pm+. Not much people there – in fact no one was there, except the stall owners, since it was so early in the afternoon. And I really have to apologise that, I totally forgot the name of the beach, so does darl (blame him! blame him!). We only know that it’s at the town of Tawang. Hmm… I started to wonder if this place is really famous… -.- I tried to locate the place on Google Map with no success. :/

Check out the blue sky…

Another side of the haven.

It’s quite common to see goats and cows along the roadside in Kelantan. There were also a few looking for yummy grass on the beach.

This photo was taken at the beginning of the haven. Yeah it’s so damn long. Half way through it, I started to imagine myself falling off the rocks… @.@

And then this was taken at the end of the haven.

Taken from our side of haven. Someone was fishing on the other side!

And someone please comment that his hair is long and ugly. This guy just doesn’t want to cut or trim his hair!!! ARGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Before we went back, we had coconut juice and some lekor on the beach. Nothing much to talk about, didn’t taste up to my standard. :P

We left the place at about 5 pm, heading towards our next food-destination. Again, stay tuned! ;)

My East Coast Dream (I).

As mentioned, I was scheduled to meet darl during the weekend at the beautiful east coast. To make sure that everything turn out well and as expected, I called the airline company and double check on my check-in time a day before my flight. Yeah I know I tend to worry a lot but hell the last time I flew with them, it stated 30 minutes in the email I received but they told me I was late!

This time I was there 90 minutes before my scheduled flight. The staff at the check-in counter was very friendly this time (that fella I met last time was extremely rude and unhelpful!) and everything went smoothly for me up to this point. I got my boarding pass and went straight to Gate 14, got myself a good seat and waited happily for my turn to fly.

Just when everything seemed to be alright, a group of people walked out from Gate 14, and I heard one of the ladies talking on the phone:

“So bad ah? Aiyo… Yeah we were already on the plane but had to turn back…”

And another businessman telling his friend to pick him up at the ferry…

I looked at the screen. It seemed that the flight at 9 am to Langkawi was canceled.

I waited a while, until I figured that at this time, I should be going on the plane already. I walked to the crew at Gate 14, and was told that my flight got delayed due to bad weather. Until when ah? No idea. @.@

And although the screen kept showing ‘BOARDING… BOARDING…’ but I was told to follow the announcement on updates. Finally at 11:40 am, the lady announced that my flight will be rescheduled at 1 pm. Since flying to Kota Bharu will take approximately 55 minutes, I sms-ed darl and told him that I’ll take a quick bite here first.

I went to the food stall just right in front of Gate 14, surveying around and decided to settle on a sandwich and a bottle of mineral water… which costed me RM7.50! And the best part was, just right after I finished biting the sandwich and took out my notebook, thinking of doing some quick sketch, the announcement came and stated that my plane is ready to fly!!! ARRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Nothing much to talk about for the next 55 minutes of journey, except that the crews were all extremely friendly and polite, the plane still smelled like someone had spilled his perfume, and a 4 month old baby was crying while a big family with kids were travelling. Oh and as my seat was just right beside one of the propeller (correct me if I’m wrong), I somehow was imagining that it was going to fall off and crash the plane… and we all will end up on an island like what happened in Lost… lol OK me pressure. In fact I arrived safely about an hour later with darl waiting for me at the airport. :P

The rest of the day was used to accompany darl running some errands at home. Like test drive a car for his dad, check out his sister’s new place, pick up keys from the contractor, and fetching his nephews from school. Had a great dinner with bunches of satay, and went to bed very early to make sure I was ready for the next day! Stay tuned! :D
