Missing Pieces.

The web server went crazy last weekend and after a few days of up and down and up and down again, finally and hopefully, everything is back to normal – well, sort of. I know for sure that I’ve lost a post or two here since they restored the data, but I really have no time to think and rewrite now. I know things like this happen once in a while, but this whole internet thingy is making me very tired.

Anyway, just thought it would be nice to write a note to tell everyone that we are fine, the dogs are still fat and messy, and the blog is still around. :)

Oh and, we are having a promotion for Black Friday and Cyber Monday until 29 November 2010, where you can get FREE SHIPPING for the second item (or more!) purchased in a single transaction. Shipping will be via International Registered Air Mail (as usual), and I have to remind you to please, please, please shop as early as possible. Holiday season always means potentially longer shipping time. So be quick! :)

The Ultimate Experience of ‘We Will Fix It Tomorrow’.

Note: This is going to be a boring rant of mine on poor customer service from a supposedly national service provider. I just needed to… rant.

The phone line at home has been down since last Sunday (10 October 2010). It started when my mother saw two guys outside our house climbing up the pillar along the road. The internet connection was down as well. So as usual – I said ‘as usual’ because service interruption from TM happens to us like once every two months – I called them to file a report.

I was told that my complaint will be attended to within 24 hours. No biggie, it was Sunday after all, and I didn’t expect them to be working on a Sunday.

So I called in again on Monday to check on the status, and was told that my problem will be fixed on Tuesday. After speaking to one of the supervisors, the internet connection mysteriously came back, while the phone line was still down. I thought this was something good – at least I was able to run my business errands.

On Tuesday, the supposed-day for my problem to be fixed, nothing happened. So I called again on Wednesday, and was asked to give them another day. The supervisor also told me that it was because someone has stolen the cable in our area, and normally will take about 5 days to fix it, but they will be able to do it the next day.

The next day (Thursday), nothing happened. Still no phone line, but the internet connection was OK. So I called them again and was told that it will definitely be fixed the next day (Friday).

On Friday, we lost the internet connection, and of course, still no phone line. Called them again, and was told to give them ANOTHER DAY. So obviously being such a good girl for over the past few days didn’t pay off, I got totally mad and started making my point very clear to the supervisor. She gave me the phone number of a technician (turned out to be a contractor of TM), in which the technician told me that they already came checking and will fix it tomorrow (Saturday, AGAIN!!!), and that it was TM’s fault for installing a new ‘equipment’ in the box outside our house and causing the problem (hmm I wonder where is the stolen cable story…). On Friday midnight, the internet connection was mysteriously back, but phone line was still down.

Saturday morning. No internet connection, no phone line. Since the technician told me that they will come fixing it on the day, I called him later in the afternoon but was told that he has done his job submitting his report to TM and the rest will be TM’s job to send someone to fix it. Yeah, WTH. So I had to talk to another supervisor, and was then told that my case has been passed to their ‘follow-up’ department (I wonder what this is). Thirty minutes later, some guy from this respective department called and said they have tried to contact the technician at my place but he was not working, and another one went out without bringing his mobile phone. And then I was asked to give them ANOTHER DAY, AGAIN. I insisted them to settle on the day itself as it was Saturday and I didn’t expect them to work on Sunday. He ensured me TM has a back-up team working on weekends and public holidays, and that they will be able to handle it on Sunday.

So, Sunday. I received a phone call from TM at 9:40 am, and was told that THEY NEED ANOTHER DAY AGAIN. Needless to say, I disagreed. And the moment I hung up the phone, the internet connection was gone (AGAIN!) and it lasted until 12:30 midnight. In between, they called me again around 4:30 pm to say the same thing of needing another day, and after a long quarrel they finally mentioned that they are LACK OF MANPOWER.

Lack of manpower for one week? So what are those promises of ‘WE WILL FIX IT TOMORROW‘?

When the Internet was Away.

The house didn’t get to connect to the internet for the past 2-3 days, no thanks to the lightning who decided to hit our modem – which of course, it was our fault. Teehee.

Living without being able to connect to the internet was kinda good. Well, kinda. I got to concentrate and work on many things, especially those never-ending pile of paperwork, and to realise that we are actually RUNNING AN ONLINE BUSINESS.

Hmmpphhh… so the internet IS important.

Anyhow. We survived. And are now busier than ever.

More to reveal hopefully very soon! :)

I’m So In Love with the Facebook Publisher on iPhoto 09!

Or perhaps I should just say that I’m so in love with iPhoto 09. I don’t remember myself enjoying iPhoto so much until today – OK I did enjoy it but wasn’t really like ooo-ahh, that’s all.

When I got my new iMac about a month ago, it was a very busy period for me and all I did with my photo library was transferring, and full stop. When I first launched iPhoto 09, I did notice some of the new features but didn’t bother to look at them much. I even told darl that ‘nah, I’m not going to learn all these, wasting my time nia‘.

A few days back I wanted to publish some photos on my Facebook and remembered about the Facebook publishing feature on iPhoto 09. So I started my experiment and couldn’t get myself away from publishing more photos and albums since then. It was, so easy!

If you are publishing for the first time, you’ll need to set up your Facebook account on iPhoto. I don’t remember exactly how it went but just follow the on-screen instruction will do. And publishing is never easier than this. Go to your Photo Albums, Events, or your Library, and select the photos that you want to publish – perhaps the right way is to create an album first and then publish but I never organise my photos nicely and sometimes I just wanna upload randomly, so this method works better for me.

To select, either command+A (select all), shift+click (to select photos in sequence), or command+click (select photos not in sequence).

After you’ve done selecting, hit the Facebook button at the right bottom of your iPhoto window.

You’ll be asked to make your viewable by Everyone, Friends of Friends, or Only Friends . Select whichever settings you want and hit Publish.

These icons will appear on your sidebar. They are the Facebook albums that you’ve published via iPhoto. The signal icon on the right side means it’s publishing and syncing.

And then you can change the album title, photo title, etc, if you want – which is what I’m doing because obviously I am always too lazy to update my photos, and always leaving the default photo title (eg: DSC00001) in my library. LOL! You may also add photos to the album from time to time. The nice thing is, whatever changes you make on the published albums in iPhoto, it will automatically change on your Facebook. Updating and uploading took me really a very short while, like merely 15 seconds. Cool eh? :D

I have yet to explore Faces and Places in iPhoto (among the new features) but I’m already deeply in love with it. Now the only problem that I’m having is, I don’t have enough nice photos to upload to Facebook. :/
