My mother has been avoiding packing take-away food in polystyrene foam or any other disposable containers. I’ve been following her steps for a while now. True enough that at times, it’s a little inconvenient. But that is just because we are too spoilt with all the disposable utensils in our lives. Knowing that the little inconvenience is doing good for the nature and ourselves, it’s just worth the effort.
This evening we have take-away fish noodle for dad. :)

It’s tough initially but being green gets easier once you cultivate the habit into your lifestyle. We used to feel awkward when we brought our own tiffin carrier around, or brought our own steel chopsticks when we ate out. But gradually we got used to it and we get the thumbs up from most hawkers and friends who hear about our green lifestyle. Besides the enzymes your mom makes, if you have space, you can try composting (did a post on my blog about this so check it out if you’re interested). My composting is going OK. In fact I throw away less rubbish too. And my plants get really rich soil. ;-)
Hi Maya! Thanks for dropping by!
I agree that it’s really a matter of making it into a habit. Now we are trying to incorporate more and always reminding our family members to bring their carrier out when ordering take-away too. :)
Oh yes I did composting once. Mine is not as organised as yours – I just used any pot sizes I had at home at that time. But it’s about 6 of us at home so it’s a lot. Ha. Now we bury the scraps directly to the garden, as seen here: http://www.nottypooch.com/mydogdiary/2010/01/08/pooch-green-steps-day-8/
