My Dog Diary

Some of you might have received a forwarded email some time end of year 2008, from a lady who was helping 4 stray puppies to look for good homes. I somehow only received the email some time in mid January 2009, and my mum was the one forwarding me the email – it’s weird that although she knew for sure I’ll ask if we can keep one and she’ll say no, she still forwarded me the email. lol.

I didn’t pay much attention to it when she told me that she had forwarded me a puppy-for-adoption email (since I was pretty sure she will say no), but when I checked the mail in my mail client, I couldn’t stop looking at the photos.

Those are like the best-est (yeah best and then -est!) puppy-for-adoption photos I’ve ever seen! In fact, it’s among the best-est dog photos that I’ve ever seen! And then of course, the puppies were so… I mean, SO adorable!

I looked at the photos over and over again, and had a conversation with my mum. We both agreed that it’s impossible that those puppies were not being adopted. The photographer was so good and oh my, the puppies even had their own names!

That evening, I decided to write to the lady, Jessica, to tell her how good I think the photos are. I don’t normally do this but I think these photos really gave an impact on me and brightened up my day that I should let her know. We then communicated through emails for a while. I was really impressed at how much she was doing for the dogs and the strays, and that reminds me how little I’ve done.

OK I probably should reveal the photos by now. lol. Thanks to Jessica and her brother, Ryan (the photographer), here are some of the photos.

Oh and, all puppies are already taken by good people now. I hope they all have happy and fulfilling life.

And btw, in case you are not aware of, there are hundreds and thousands of stray dogs on the streets in our country. Have you ever wondered where they actually came from? Yeap from their mother, of course. But why are they on the streets?

Because they are unwanted by the owner.

If they are unwanted, why let the mother pregnant in the first place? You may ask.

Well, that would mainly because there are still many irresponsible dog owners out there who don’t see spaying or neutering their dogs important. They probably don’t see a dog as a living creature either – more like something that they can dispose at any time they find comfy for themselves. I know I probably sound very harsh saying this but it’s true. I’ve seen how some people are treating – or rather abusing their dogs. It’s just that, some people just shouldn’t keep a dog just because they are expecting the dog to guard their houses and properties for them – and by confining the dog in a small, hot, humid area, or by tying him up to a pillar 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for his entire life.

I mean, come on, do you want to be treated this way in the first place? No? Then what makes you so much better that you can treat other living creatures this way?

I’m not saying that we should feed abalone or sharks fin (say no to sharks fin too, please) to the pooches but hey, I’m sure just a little humane will definitely bring you closer to the heaven when it’s your turn.

OK perhaps I should stop here. I admit that I could possibly overreact when it comes to this issue. I’m not an expert in this topic but it’s really depressing seeing how some people are treating their pets. To do my little part, I’ve scheduled Xiao Bi for spaying some time this year (OK it’s freaking expensive for her size but I’m saving for it), and am very sure that the next dog that I’m going to get will be through adoption or some similar way. There are so many dogs out there waiting for help so never ever from a breeder or the pet shop again.

UPDATES: Jessica told me that her mother is the one behind painstakingly ensuring the dogs have enough to drink and eat. We salute you, aunty! :)
